Daily Qur'an & Hadith 01 April 2015 (11 Jamadi us`Sani 1436).

English Translation of Al-Quran

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)

Ayat 151. Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say:

Ayat 152. "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars!

Ayat 153. Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons?

Ayat 154. What is the matter with you? How do you decide?

Ayat 155. Will you not then remember?

Ayat 156. Or is there for you a plain authority?

Ayat 157. Then bring your Book if you are truthful!

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 151 to 157. Is it not that they say, from their own invention, Ayat 152. "(Allah) has begotten children"? but they are liars! Any attribution to Allah of ideas derogatory to His Oneness and His supreme height above all creatures is likely to degrade our own conception of Allah's Universal Plan, and is condemned in the strongest terms. Ayat 153. Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? There is the strongest irony in this passage. Ayat 154. What is the matter with you? How judge ye? Ayat 155. Will ye not then receive admonition? Ayat 156. Or have ye an authority manifest? Ayat 157. Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful!

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Masood (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah. A man persists in speaking the truth till he is enrolled with Allah as a truthful. Falsehood leads to vice and vice leads to the Fire (Hell), and a person persists on telling lies until he is enrolled as a liar".'

[Muslim Book 32, Chapter 26, Hadith # 6306].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 151. Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans)" Siddiq (veracious) and Kadhdhab (liar) both are adjectives of intensive degree. That is to say, the words stand respectively for someone whose truth has become his second nature; and in the opposite case, one is a liar who is in the habit of telling lies. As one acquires a reputation in this world for his good or bad deeds similar is his position before Allah. One who is ranked among the truthful with Him is entitled to reward, and if one is a liar, he has to suffer retribution for it. This Hadith provides incentive for truthfulness because it is a source of every good deed and contains a warning against lying as it gives rise to all kinds of mischief.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 31 March 2015 (10 Jamadi us`Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)

Ayat 149. Now ask them (O Muhammad  [SAWW] (PBUH): "Are there (only) daughters for your Lord and sons for them?"

Ayat 150. Or did Allah create the angels females while they were witnesses?

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 149. Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- Allah begin a new argument here. The Pagan Arabs called angels daughters of Allah. They themselves were ashamed of having daughters, and preferred to have sons, and Ayat 150. Or that Allah created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)?

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Masud Al-Ansari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "One of the admonitions of the previous Prophets which has been conveyed to people is that if you have no modesty, you can do whatever you like.''

[Bukhari Book # 04, Chapter 56 Hadith # 691].

Lesson: This does not mean that doing everything is allowed for a shameless person. It is like giving information that when a person loses the feeling of shame, then he does not mind doing anything. For this reasons the western nations intend to finish the feeling of shame and remorse among the Muslims, which is a landmark and a criterion of Islam. They want to do away with this criterion so that Muslims may indulge in shameless things happily. Unfortunately, the western people are succeeding in their designs and the Islamic social life is also tending to be shameless like its western counterpart.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 30 March 2015 (09 Jamadi us`Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)

Ayat 139. And, verily, Yunus PBUH (Jonah) was one of the Messengers.

Ayat 140. When he ran to the laden ship,

Ayat 141. He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers,

Ayat 142. Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame.

Ayat 143. Had he not been of them who glorify Allah,

Ayat 144. He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection.

Ayat 145. But Allah cast him forth on the shore while he was sick,

Ayat 146. And Allah caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.

Ayat 147. And Allah sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more.

Ayat 148. And they believed; so Allah gave them enjoyment for a while.

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 139 to 148. So also was Jonah PBUH among those sent (by Allah). For illustrative passages, see 21:87-88, and 68:48-50. Jonah's mission was to the city of Nineveh, then steeped in wickedness. He was rejected and he denounced Allah's wrath on them, but they repented and obtained Allah's forgiveness. But Jonah PBUH "departed in wrath" (21:87), forgetting that Allah has Mercy as well as forgiveness. See the notes following, Cf. 10:98. When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, Jonah ran away from Nineveh like a slave from captivity. He should have stuck to his post and merged his own will in Allah's Will. He was hasty, and went off to take a ship. As if he could escape from Allah's Plan! 141. He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: The ship was fully laden and met foul weather. The sailors, according to their superstition, wanted to find out who was responsible for the ill-luck: a fugitive slave would cause such ill-luck. The lot fell on Jonah, and he was cast off. 142. Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. The rivers of Mesopotamia have some huge fishes. If it were in an open northern sea, it might be a whale. The locality is not mentioned: in the Old Testament he is said to have taken ship in the port of Joppa (now Jaffa ) in the Mediterranean (Jonah. 1:3), which would be not less than 600 miles from Nineveh . The Tigris river, mentioned by some of our Commentators, is more likely, and it contains some fishes of extraordinary size. 143. Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, "But he cried through the depths of darkness, 'There is no god but Thee; glory to Thee! I was indeed wrong!" (21:87). 144. He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. This is just the idiom. This was to be the burial and the grave of Jonah. If he had not repented, he could not have got out of the body of the creature that had swallowed him, until the Day of Resurrection, when all the dead would be raised up. 145. But Allah cast him forth on the shore in a state of sickness, Cf. 37:89 above. His strange situation might well have caused him to be ill. He wanted fresh air and solitude. He got both in the open plain, and the abundantly shady Gourd Plant or some fruitful tree like it gave him both shade and sustenance. The Gourd is a creeper that can spread over any roof or ruined structure. 146. And Allah caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 147. And Allah sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. The city of Nineveh was a very large city. The Old Testament says: "Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. In other words its circuit was about 45 miles, and its population was over a hundred and twenty thousand inhabitants. 148. And they believed; so Allah permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. They repented and believed, and Nineveh got a new lease of life. For the dates to which Jonah maybe referred, and the vicissitudes of the City's history as the seat of the Assyrian Empire, The lessons from Jonah's story are: (1) that no man should take upon himself to judge of Allah's wrath or Allah's mercy; (2) that nevertheless Allah forgives true repentance, whether in a righteous man, or in a wicked city; and (3) that Allah's Plan will always prevail, and can never be defeated.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin `Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Allah accepts a slave's repentance as long as the latter is not on his death bed (that is, before the soul of the dying person reaches the throat)".

[At-Tirmidhi, Hadith # 3537]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 143. Had he not been of them who glorify Allah" The word Ghargharah means the stage when soul is about to leave the body and reaches the throat. In other words, the time when one suffers the agony of death.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 29 March 2015 (08 Jamadi us`Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)

Ayat 133. And verily, Lout PBUH (Lot) was one of the Messengers.

Ayat 134. When Allah saved him and his family, all,

Ayat 135. Except an old woman (his wife) who was among those who remained behind.

Ayat 136. Then Allah destroyed the rest [i.e. the towns of Sodom at the place of the Dead Sea (now) in Palestine].

Ayat 137. Verily, you pass by them in the morning.

Ayat 138. And at night; will you not then reflect?

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 133 to 138. So also was Lout PBUH among those sent (by Allah) the best illustration of this passage about Lout will be found in 7:80-84. He was a prophet sent to Sodom and Gomorrah, Cities of the Plain, by the Dead Sea. The inhabitants were given over to abominable crimes, against which he preached. They insulted him and threatened to expel him. But Allah in His mercy saved him and his family, with one exception, (see the following note), and then destroyed the Cities. 134. Behold, We delivered him and his adherents, all 135. Except an old woman who was among those who lagged behind: Cf. 7:83, Lout's PBUH wife had no faith: she lagged behind, and perished in the general ruin. 136. Then Allah destroyed the rest. 137. Verily, ye pass by their (sites), by day-Cf. 15:76, and n. 1998. The tract where they lay is situated on the highway to Syria where the Arab caravans travelled regularly, "by day and by night". Could not future generations learn wisdom from the destruction of those who did wrong? 138. And by night: will ye not understand?

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Umer (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: when Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH), and his Companions reached Al-Hijr, the dwellings of the Thamud people, he admonished his Companions (saying), "Do not pass by these people who are being tormented, without weeping, lest the punishment should befall you as it had befallen them.'' [Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 55, Hadith # 564].

Another narration is: Hazrat Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: When the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) passed near Al-Hijr, he said, "Do not enter without weeping, the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, lest the same chastisement should fall upon you as it had fallen upon them.'' Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) then covered his head and sped up until he crossed the valley of the tormented people.

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 136. Then Allah destroyed the rest and 137. Verily, you pass by them in the morning. The Thamud were the people to whose guidance Allah sent Prophet Saleh PBUH. They lived between Al-Madinah and Syria. In 10 A.H. when the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) went to the Syrian border for the Tabuk expedition, he also passed through this ruined territory. This Hadith is related to the address which he gave to his Companions on the occasion. Here is an instruction that when we happen to pass through the territory of a nation destroyed in the past as a result of Divine wrath, we are advised to quicken one's pace. That is why we have been commanded to avoid the company of the corrupt and the wrongdoers, lest we meet their bad end, too. As the Qur'an says: "And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you.'' (11:113) May Allah saves us from it!

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 28 March 2015 (07 Jamadi us`Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)

Ayat 123. And verily, Ilyas (Elias) was one of the Messengers.

Ayat 124. When he said to his people: "Will you not fear Allah?

Ayat 125. "Will you call upon Ba'l (a well- known idol of his nation whom they used to worship) and forsake the Best of creators,

Ayat 126. "Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?"

Ayat 127. But they denied him [Ilyas (Elias)], so they will certainly be brought forth (to the punishment),

Ayat 128. Except the chosen slaves of Allah.

Ayat 129. And Allah left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times;

Ayat 130. Salamun (peace) be upon Ilyas (Elias)!"

Ayat 131. Verily, thus do Allah reward the Muhsinun (good-doers, who perform good deeds totally for Allah's sake only).

Ayat 132. Verily, he was one of Allah's believing servants.

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 123 to 132. So also was Elias among those sent (by Allah). 6:85. Elias is the same as Elijah, whose story will be found in the Old Testament in 1 Kings 17-19 and 2 Kings 1-2. Elijah lived in the reign of Ahab (B.C. 896-874) and Ahaziah (B.C. 874-872), kings of the (northern) kingdom of Israel or Samaria. He was a prophet of the desert, like John the Baptist— unlike our Prophet, who took part in, controlled, and guided all the affairs of his people. Both Ahab and Ahaziah were prone to lapse into the worship of Ba'l, the sun-god worshipped in Syria. That worship also included the worship of nature-powers and procreative powers, as in the Hindu worship of the Lingam, and led to many abuses. King Ahab had married a princess of Sidon, Jezebel, a wicked woman who led her husband to forsake Allah and adopt Ba'1-worship. Elijah denounced all Ahab's sins as well as the sins of Ahaziah and had to flee for his life. Eventually, according to the Old Testament (2 Kings, 2:11) he was taken up in a whirlwind to heaven in a chariot of fire after he had left his mantle with Elisha the prophet. (R). 124. Behold, he said to his people, "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 125. "Will ye call upon Ba'l and forsake the Best of Creators, For Ba'l-worship 126."(Allah), your Lord and Cherisher and the Lord and Cherisher of your fathers of old?" 127. But they rejected him, and they will certainly be called up (for punishment), they persecuted him and he had to flee for his life. Eventually he disappeared mysteriously; 128. Except the sincere and devoted Servants of Allah (among them). 129. And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times: 130. "Peace and salutation to such as Elias!" A Ilyasin may be an alternative form of Ilyas: Cf. Sayna'a (23:20) and Sinin (95:2). Or it may be the plural of Ilyas, meaning "such people as Ilyas". 131. Thus indeed do Allah reward those who do right. 132. For he was one of our believing Servants.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Busr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: One of the Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH). There are many injunctions of Islam for me. So tell me something to which I may hold fast.'' He said, "Keep your tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah.''

[At-Tirmidhi, Hadith # 3383]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 131. Verily, thus do Allah reward the Muhsinun (good-doers, who perform good deeds totally for Allah's sake only)" Shari'ah` is the plural of Sharia "Shari`ah" is in the sense of Mashru`ah, that is the Divine injunctions. These Divine injunctions are of various kinds, i.e., some of them are obligatory, some desirable and some voluntary. The obligatory ones are compulsory and their compliance is indispensable. What is termed as Mustahabbat (desirables) are also highly important for gaining the Pleasure of Allah. Similarly, voluntary acts are a means of getting close to Allah. Ordinary people are sometimes puzzled by the abundance of the latter and want to adhere to the first two that is obligations and what comes in the category of desirables. A desire to this effect is mentioned in this Hadith. The Prophet (PBUH) answered the query in this matter by saying to the inquirer, "Keep your tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah.'' Keeping the tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah here means its abundant recitation. In other words, one should make the remembrance of Allah a permanent feature. If one is not able to do many voluntary good works, which some people find difficult, the remembrance of Allah will make up the deficiency in that regard.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 27 March 2015 (06 Jamadi us`Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)

Ayat 114. And, indeed Allah gave his Grace to Musa PBUH (Moses) and Haroon PBUH (Aaron).

Ayat 115. And Allah saved them and their people from the great distress;

Ayat 116. And helped them, so that they became the victors;

Ayat 117. And Allah gave them the clear Scripture;

Ayat 118. And guided them to the Right Path;

Ayat 119. And Allah left for them (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times;

Ayat 120. Salamun (peace) be upon Musa PBUH (Moses) and Haroon PBUH (Aaron)!"

Ayat 121. Verily, thus do Allah reward the Muhsinun (good-doers).

Ayat 122. Verily! They were two of Allah's believing servants.

Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 114. Again (of old) Allah bestowed the favor on Moses PBUH and Aaron PBUH, The story of Moses PBUH is told in numerous passages of the Qur'an. The passages most illustrative of the present passage will be found in 28:4 (oppression of the Israelites in Egypt) and 20:77-79 (the Israelites triumphant over their enemies when the latter were drowned in the Red Sea). Ayat 115. And We delivered them and their people from (their) Great Calamity; What could have been a greater calamity to them than that they should have been held in slavery by the Egyptians, that their male children should have been killed and their female children should have been saved alive for the Egyptians? Ayat 116. And We helped them, so they overcame (their troubles); The Israelites were delivered by three steps mentioned inverses 114,115, and 116 respectively; but the consummation of Allah's favour on them was (verses 117-118) the Revelation given to them, which guided them on the Straight Way, so long as they preserved the Revelation intact and followed its precepts. The three steps were: (1) the divine commission to Moses and Aaron: (2) the deliverance from bondage; and (3) the triumphant crossing of the Red Sea and the destruction of Pharaoh's army. Ayat 117. And Allah gave them the Book which helps to make things clear; Mustabin has a slightly different force from Mubin. I have translated the former by "which helps to make things clear", and the latter by "which makes things clear"—apt descriptions as applied to the Tawrah and the Qur'an. Ayat 118. And Allah guided them to the Straight Way. Ayat 119. And Allah left (this blessing) for them among generations (to come) in later times: Ayat 120. "Peace and salutation to Moses and Aaron!" Ayat 121. Thus indeed do Allah reward those who do right. Ayat 122. For they were two of our believing Servants.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The superiority of the learned over the devout worshipper is like my superiority over the most inferior amongst you (in good deeds).'' He went on to say, "Allah, His angels, the dwellers of the heaven and the earth, and even the ant in its hole and the fish (in water) supplicate in favor of those who teach people knowledge.''

[At-Tirmidhi, Hadith # 2685]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 119. And Allah left for them (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times" Alim (learned person) here means scholar of the Qur'an and Hadith, who adheres to Faraid and Sunnah and remains busy in learning and imparting knowledge. `Abid (devout worshipper) is one who spends most of his time in the worship of Allah. The benefit of his voluntary prayer and remembrance of Allah is restricted to his own self while the benefit of knowledge of the scholar reaches others also. Hence, of the two, the latter is far superior. If Salat is mentioned with reference to Allah, it denotes "Allah's Grace with Mercy;'' if it is mentioned with reference to the angels, it denotes "to pray for forgiveness;'' and if it is mentioned with reference to other creatures - men, animals, etc., - then it means prayer and supplication. Thus, Allah graces that person with His Mercy who teaches people the beneficial knowledge, i.e., the knowledge of Islam; angels pray to Allah to forgive his (or her) sins; and other creatures pray for his (or her) well-being. In this way, this Hadith stresses the distinction of religious scholars and highlights the esteem in which they are held by Allah, His angels and His other creatures.
