Daily Qur'an & Hadith 01 Sep 2014 (05 Zul-Qa'dah 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 21. And verily, Allah will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities, etc.) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter), in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islam).

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 21. And indeed Allah will make them taste of the Penalty of this (life) prior to the supreme Penalty, in order that they may (repent and) return. The final Penalty is to come in the Hereafter. There is no doubt about it. But before it comes, a minor Penalty comes in this very life. It may be in some kind of misfortune, or it may be in the pangs of a tortured conscience or secret sorrow. But this minor Penalty may be really a mercy, as it gives them a chance of repentance and amendment.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  ,  "Allah, the Exalted, says: 'I have no reward other than Jannah for a believing slave of Mine who remains patient for My sake when I take away his beloved one from among the inhabitants of the world".

[Al-Bukhari Book 08, Chapter 76, Hadith # 432].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 21 "Allah will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities, etc " Child, wife and parents, etc., are the dearest people to everyone. It is a great sign of Faith to accept their death as the Will of Allah, to bear their loss with patience. Wailing and saying nonsense things show weakness of Faith. The reward of patience on such tragedies is Jannah while the result of impatience is displeasure of Allah.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 31 Aug 2014 (04 Zul-Qa'dah 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 20. And as for those who are Fasiqun (disbelievers and disobedient to Allah), their abode will be the Fire, every time they wish to get away therefrom, they will be put back thereto, and it will be said to them: "Taste you the torment of the Fire which you used to deny."

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 20. As to those who are rebellious and wicked, their abode will be the Fire: every time they wish to get away therefrom, they will be forced there into, and it will be said to them: "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire, the which ye were wont to reject as false." Cf. 22:22 . Just as the Garden is a type of Bliss, so is the Fire a type of Penalty and suffering. There will be no getting away from it. What will be the thoughts of those who had earned it? "We used to reject the idea of the Consequences as mere chimera: and now we find it to be true!" What will be their feelings then? How will they like it!

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Everyone of my Ummah will enter Jannah except those who refuse". He was asked: "Who will refuse?'' He  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Whoever obeys me, shall enter Jannah, and whosoever disobeys me, refuses to (enter Jannah)".

[Al-Bukhari Book 9, Chapter 92, Hadith # 384]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 20 "those who are Fasiqun (disbelievers and disobedient to Allah), their abode will be the Fire" The word Ummah here stands for the community which accepted the invitation of the Prophet ( [SAWW](PBUH), that is to say, the people who on his call embraced Islam. Out of this community who follow him faithfully will go to Jannah.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 30 Aug 2014 (03 Zul-Qa'dah 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 18. Is then he who is a believer like him who is Fasiq (disbeliever and disobedient to Allah)? Not equal are they.

Ayat 19. As for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, for them are Gardens (Paradise) as an entertainment, for what they used to do.

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 18 and 19. Is then the man who believes no better than the man who is rebellious and wicked? Not equal are they. The Future of the two classes-the Blessed and the Wicked-is described in verses 19-22. Ayat 19. For those who believe and do righteous deeds are Gardens as hospitable homes, for their (good) deeds. A home brings before our minds a picture of peace and happiness. When to it are added honour and hospitality, it adds further to the idea of happiness.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When an infidel accomplishes any good deed, he is rewarded for it in this world; and in the case of a Muslim, Allah stores up his good acts for him in the Hereafter and provides him with subsistence in this life due to his obedience.''

[Muslim Book 39, Chapter 11, Hadith # 6739]

Another narration is: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW] (PBUH) said, "Allah does not wrong a believer a good deed because he is given blessings for it in this world and will be rewarded for it in the Hereafter. But the infidel is given in the world the reward for good deeds, he has performed for the sake of Allah and when he comes to the Hereafter, there is no good deed for which he can be rewarded". [Muslim Book 39, Chapter 11, Hadith # 6740]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 19. "those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, for them are Gardens (Paradise)" The infidels also do in this world many works which are for public welfare, or which come under the category of good deeds. Almighty Allah gives them reward for such good deeds in this world in the form of wealth, sound health, or saving them from some trouble, because Belief is precondition for reward in the Hereafter. Since an infidel is deprived of it, he will also be deprived of their reward in the Hereafter. Thus, we learn that Belief constitutes the basis of every action and is a precondition for the acceptance of any good deed by Allah.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 29 Aug 2014 (02 Zul-Qa'dah 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 17. No person knows what is kept hidden for them (by Allah) of joy as a reward (in Jannah) for what they used to do.

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 17. Now no person knows what delights of the eye are kept hidden (in reserve) for them - as a reward for their (good) deeds. Delights of the eye: an idiom for that which pleases most and gives most satisfaction. In our present state we can scarcely imagine the real Bliss that will come to us in the Future.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Allah, the Exalted, has said: `I have prepared for my righteous slaves what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and the mind of no man has conceived.' If you wish, recite: `No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.''' (32:17)

[Al-Bukhari Vol. 6, Chapter 60, Hadith # 302].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 17 "No person knows what is kept hidden for them (by Allah) of joy as a reward" About the gifts and pleasures of Jannah, here a Hadith has been stated in the Words of Allah. The subject matter is confirmed from the Verse of the Qur'an given in the text of the Hadith.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 28 Aug 2014 (01 Zul-Qa'dah 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 16. Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah's Cause) out of what Allah have bestowed on them.

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 16. Their limbs do forsake their beds of sleep, the while they call on their Lord, in Fear and Hope: and they spend (in charity) out of the sustenance which Allah have bestowed on them. Junub: sides, on which men sleep and turn in their sleep: I have translated this "limbs" for shortness. Holy men and women "breathless with adoration" shun soft, comfortable beds, and luxurious sleep. Their limbs are better exercised in offices of devotion and prayer, especially by night. Commentators specially refer this to Prayers called Tahajjud, which are offered after midnight in the small hours of the morning, in twelve Rak'as. In Fear and Hope: in spiritual fear lest their dedication to Allah should not be sufficiently worthy to be accepted, and a spiritual longing or hope that their shortcomings will be overlooked by the Mercy of Allah. And their adoration is not shown only in Prayer, but also in practical Service and Charity, out of whatever gifts they may have received from Allah.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Ash-Shikhkhir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I came to the Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) while he was reciting (Surat At-Takathur 102): "The mutual rivalry (for hoarding worldly things) preoccupies you. Until you visit the graves (i.e., till you die). (102:1-8) (After reciting) he (PBUH) said, "Son of Adam says: `My wealth, my wealth.' Do you own of your wealth other than what you eat and consume, and what you wear and wear out, or what you give in Sadaqah (charity) (to those who deserve it), and that what you will have in stock for yourself.''

[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 42, Hadith # 7061].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 16 "they spend (charity in Allah's Cause) out of what Allah have bestowed on them" This Hadith enjoins if a person given wealth, he or she should spend it in way liked by Allah because it is this Sadaqah which will be a valuable treasure in the Afterlife. Whatever else he or she consumes in this world, will finish or rot in this world and will be of no avail in Hereafter.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 27 Aug 2014 (30 Shawwal 1435).

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 15. Only those believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), who, when they are reminded of them fall down prostrate, and glorify the Praises of their Lord, and they are not proud.

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 15. Only those believe in Our Signs, who, when they are recited to them, fall down in adoration, and celebrate the praises of their Lord, nor are they (ever) puffed up with pride. In adoration: Sujjadan, or in a posture of prostration, expressive of deep humility and faith. This is the keyword of the Surah, which bears the title of Al Sajdah. All the Signs of Allah lead our thoughts upwards towards Him, and when they are expounded, our attitude should be one of humble gratitude to Allah. At this passage it is usual to make a prostration.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said: "Glorify your Lord in Ruku` (bowing posture) and exert yourself in supplication in prostration. Thus your supplications are liable to be accepted.''

[Muslim Book 004, Chapter 37, Hadith # 970].

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "A slave becomes nearest to his Rubb when he is in prostration. So increase supplications while prostrating.''

[Muslim Book 004, Chapter 37, Hadith # 979]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 15. "those believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), who, when they are reminded of them fall down prostrate" Both the Ahadith mentioned above, evidently show that there is greater possibility of acceptance of an invocation which is made in prostration. Therefore, one must do it in the voluntary Salat.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 26 Aug 2014 (29 Shawwal 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[32]. Surah As-Sajdah [The Prostration]

Ayat 14. Then taste you (the torment of the Fire) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours, (and) surely! Allah too will forget you, so taste you the abiding torment for what you used to do.

Tafseer of Surah Al Sajdah (The Prostration) Ayat 14. "Taste ye then - for ye forgot the Meeting of this Day of yours, and We too will forget you - taste ye the Penalty of Eternity for your (evil) deeds!" Cf. 7:51. "Forget" here is in the sense of "to ignore deliberately, to reject with scorn". In the sense of mistake or defect of knowledge it is inapplicable to the All-Perfect Being, for we are expressly told, "My Lord never errs, nor forgets": 20:52.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires".

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2459]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah As-Sajda Ayat 14. "taste you (the torment of the Fire) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours" This Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one's self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions.
