Daily Qur'an & Hadith 01 Feb 2015 (11 Rabi'us Sani 1436).

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 15. They (people of the town) said: "You are only human beings like ourselves, and the Most Beneficent (Allah) has revealed nothing, you are only telling lies."

Ayat 16. The Messengers said: "Our Lord knows that we have been sent as Messengers to you, Ayat 17. "And our duty is only to convey plainly (the Message)."

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 15 to 17. The (people) said: "Ye are only men like ourselves; and (Allah) Most Gracious sends no sort of revelation: ye do nothing but lie. We also are men with like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities..." They not only reject the mission of the particular messengers, but they deny the possibility of Allah's sending such mission. Note how they convict themselves of inconsistency by using Allah's name "Most Gracious", even though they may mean it ironically! Ayat 16. The Prophets said: "Our Lord doth know that we have been sent on a mission to you: Just as a Messenger whose credentials are doubted can refer to the authority granted by his Principal, as the highest proof of his mission, so these messengers of Allah invoke the authority of Allah in proof of their mission. In effect they say: "The knowledge of Allah is perfect, and He knows that our mission is from Him; if you do not, it is your own misfortune." Ayat 17. "And our duty is only to proclaim the clear Message." Then they proceed to explain what their mission is. It is not to force them but to convince them. It is to proclaim openly and clearly Allah's Law, which they were breaking-to denounce their sins and to show them the better path. If they were obstinate, it was their own loss. If they were rebellious against Allah, the punishment rested with Allah.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Everyone of my Ummah will enter Jannah except those who refuse". He was asked: "Who will refuse?'' He  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Whoever obeys me, shall enter Jannah, and whosoever disobeys me, refuses to (enter Jannah)".

[Al-Bukhari Book 9, Chapter 92, Hadith # 384]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 16. The Messengers said: "Our Lord knows that we have been sent as Messengers to you" The word Ummah here stands for the community which accepted the invitation of the Prophet ( [SAWW](PBUH), that is to say, the people who on his call embraced Islam. Out of this community who follow him faithfully will go to Jannah.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 31 Jan 2015 (10 Rabi'us Sani 1436).

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 13. And put forward to them a similitude; the (story of the) dwellers of the town, [It is said that the town was Antioch (Antakya)], when there came Messengers to them.

Ayat 14. When We sent to them two Messengers, they belied them both, so We reinforced them with a third, and they said: "Verily! We have been sent to you as Messengers."

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 13 and 14. Set forth to them, by way of a parable, the (story of) the Companions of the City. Behold! there came messengers to it. Many of the classical Commentators have supposed that the City referred to was Antioch. Now Antioch was one of the most important cities in North Syria in the first century of the Christian era. It was a Greek city founded by Selecus Nicator, one of the successors of Alexander, about 300 B.C. in memory of his father Antiochus. It was close to the sea, and had its seaport at Seleucia. Soon after Christ his disciples successfully preached there, and they "were called Christians first in Antioch ", Acts, 11:26. It afterwards became the seat of a most important Bishopric of the Christian Church. In the story told here "by way of a parable", the City rejected the Message, and the City was destroyed: 36:29. Following Ibn Kathir, I reject the identification with Antioch decisively. No name, or period, or place is mentioned in the text. The significance of the story is in the lessons to be derived from it as a parable, for which see the next note. That is independent of name, time, or place. Ayat 14. When We (first) sent to them two messengers, they rejected them: But We strengthened them with a third: they said, "Truly, we have been sent on a mission to you." Allah sends His messengers or teachers of Truth by ones and twos, and where the opposition is great and He considers it necessary, he supports them with others. Their mission is divine, but they do not claim to be more than men. This is used by the unjust and the ungodly as if it were a reproach, whereas it should commend them to men, for mankind is glorified by such commission and by Allah's Self-revelation. The Message is clearly expressed in human language, but because it exposes all evil, men think it unlucky, as it checks their selfishness. It is often the poorest and most despised of mankind, from the outskirts or "farthest parts of the City", those accept the Message and are willing to work and die for it. The stiff-necked resist and accomplish their own destruction.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Sufyan bin `Abdullah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said, "O Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH), tell me something of Islam which I will not ask anyone else about it.'' He  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Say, `I believe in Allah' and then be steadfast".

[Muslim, Book 01, Chapter 14, Hadith # 062].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 14. When We sent to them two Messengers, they belied them both" Steadfastness means adhering firmly to the injunctions of Islam, to act upon what is ordained and avoid what is prohibited, to perform dutifully orders in respect of obligations and what is regarded desirable and avoid what is unlawful. Faith is not a mere expression of Shahadah. The real Faith is one which is coupled with its actual practice because practice of religion is in fact the fruit of Faith. A tree which does not bear any fruit, has no value, similarly; faith becomes meaningless without practice. Steadfastness is the mark of perfect Faith.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 30 Jan 2015 (09 Rabi'us Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 12. Verily, We give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before (them), and their traces [their footsteps and walking on the earth with their legs to the mosques for the five compulsory congregational prayers, (travel to spread Quran, Sunnah, truthfulness and Allah's Cause) and all other good and evil they did, and that which they leave behind], and all things We have recorded with numbers (as a record) in a Clear Book.

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 12. Verily We shall give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before and that which they leave behind, and of all things have We taken account in a clear Book (of evidence).  All this is possible, because there is the assurance of a Hereafter, in which Allah will be all-in-all, and evil will no longer bestride the world, as the term of its respite will have expired (Cf. 6:36 and 30:19). Our deeds, good and bad, go to Allah's Judgement Seat before us. They will of course be brought to our account; but our account will also be swelled by the example we left behind us and the consequences of our deeds, that will come into play or continue to operate after our earthly life had ceased. Our moral and spiritual responsibility is therefore much wider than as affects our own person. Cf. 2:124. All our account will be exactly preserved as in a book of record.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "If anyone calls others to follow right guidance, his reward will be equivalent to those who follow him (in righteousness) without their reward being diminished in any respect, and if anyone invites others to follow error, the sin, will be equivalent to that of the people who follow him (in sinfulness) without their sins being diminished in any respect".

[Muslim Book # 06, Chapter 34, Hadith # 6470].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 12. "and all things We have recorded with numbers (as a record) in a Clear Book" Invitation' and `Call' stand to mean here that someone induces others to virtue or seduces to sin by means of his speech or action. We come to know from this Hadith that one who becomes a medium for either of them is given a reward or punishment respectively by Allah (SWT).

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 29 Jan 2015 (08 Rabi'us Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 11. You (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) can only warn him who follows the Reminder (the Qur'an and Sunnah), and fears the Most Beneficent (Allah) unseen. Bear you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) to such one the glad tidings of forgiveness, and a generous reward (i.e. Paradise).

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 11. Thou canst but admonish such a one as follows the Message and fears the (Lord) Most Gracious, unseen: give such a one, therefore, good tidings, of Forgiveness and a Reward most generous. Cf. 35:18. As far as those are concerned, who have obstinately delivered themselves to evil, the preaching of Allah's Message has no appeal, because their own will shuts them out. But there are others who are anxious to hear Allah's Message and receive Allah's grace. They love Allah and fear to offend against His Holy Law, and their fear is not merely superficial but deep-seated: for while they do not yet see Allah, nor do other people see them, they have the same sense of Allah's presence as if they saw Him, and their religion is not a mere pose, 'to be seen of men'. See 35:18. Unseen is here adverbial: their reverence for Allah is unaffected by the fact that they do not see him, or that other people do not observe them, because their attitude arises out of a genuine love for Allah. To such persons the Messenger of Allah comes as a gospel or good news: because it shows them the way of forgiveness for anything wrong in their past, and it gives them the promise of a full reward in the future-generous beyond any deserts of their own, but arising out of Allah's unbounded Bounty.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Never a Prophet had been sent before me by Allah to his people but he had, among his people, (his) disciples and companions, who followed his ways and obeyed his command. Then there came after them their successors who proclaimed what they did not practice, and practiced what they were not commanded to do. And (he) who strove against them with his hand is a believer; he who strove against them with his heart is a believer; and he who strove against them with his tongue is a believer; and beyond that there is no grain of Faith".

[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 21, Hadith # 081]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 11. You can only warn him who follows the Reminder (the Qur'an and Sunnah), and fears the Most Beneficent (Allah)" This Hadith contains a very important prescription to prevent the Muslim society from all things which are forbidden in Islam. So long as Muslims adhered to it and ceaselessly and fearlessly performed their obligation of enjoining the right and forbidding the wrong, their society was largely safe from many evils and sins.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 28 Jan 2015 (07 Rabi'us Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 9. And Allah have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and have covered them up, so that they cannot see.

Ayat 10. It is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) warn them or you warn them not, they will not believe.

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 9 and 10. And We have put a bar in front of them and a bar behind them, and further, We have covered them up; so that they cannot see. Their retreat is cut off and their progress is impossible. Further the Light that should come from above is cut off, so that they become totally devoid of any hope, and the last gleam of any spiritual understanding is extinguished in them. Ayat 10. The same is it to them whether thou admonish them or thou do not admonish them: they will not believe. When the stage just described is reached, revelation or spiritual teaching ceases to have any value for them. Why then preach? The answer is given in the verses following.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking away (the lives of) the religious scholars till none of the scholars stays alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray.''

[Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 03, Hadith # 100]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 10. It is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) warn them or you warn them not, they will not believe. It is a sign of the nearness of the Day of Judgment that the world will be deprived of genuine religious scholars, and illiterate people will become leaders who will have neither the knowledge of the Qur'an nor that of the Hadith. Despite their ignorance of the Qur'an and the Hadith, they will be called Mujtahid (jurist entitled to independent reasoning) and Imam (leader) and will mislead people with their legal opinions and self-created problems. Besides urging us to acquire religious knowledge with a view to producing more scholars in the society, this Hadith also warns us against the ignorant self-styled `Ulama'. It also warns us against entrusting religious leadership to them.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 27 Jan 2015 (06 Rabi'us Sani 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 7. Indeed the Word (of punishment) has proved true against most of them, so they will not believe.

Ayat 8. Verily! We have put on their necks iron collars reaching to chins, so that their heads are forced up.

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 7 and 8. The Word is proved true against the greater part of them: for they do not believe. Cf. 7:30 , and 17:16. If people deliberately and obstinately refuse "to believe", i.e., to receive guidance and admonition, the result must be that Allah's grace and mercy are withdrawn from them. Their own perversity inevitably blocks up all channels for their correction. Ayat 8. We have put yokes round their necks right up to their chins, so that their heads are forced up (and they cannot see). Man's misdeeds inevitably call forth the operation of Allah's Law, and therefore the result is in Quranic language attributed to Allah. The result of man's willful disobedience is now described in a series of metaphors. (1) Refusal of Allah's Light means less and less freedom of action for man: the yoke of sin is fastened round man's neck, and it gets more and more tightened, right up to the chin. (2) The head is forced up and kept in a stiff position, so that the mind becomes befogged. Moral obliquity taints the intellect. According to the Sanskrit proverb, "When destruction comes near, understanding is turned upside down." According to the Latin proverb, "Whom God wishes to destroy, He first makes demented." In other words, iniquity not only is folly, but leads deeper and deeper into folly, narrowness of vision, and blindness to the finer things of life. (3) This state of deprivation of Grace leads to such a decline in spiritual vitality that the victim can neither progress nor turn back, as explained in the next verse.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We swore allegiance to Messenger of Allah  SAWW (PBUH) to hear and obey; in time of difficulty and in prosperity, in hardship and in ease, to endure being discriminated against and not to dispute about rule with those in power, except in case of evident infidelity regarding which there is a proof from Allah. We swore allegiance to Messenger of Allah   SAWW (PBUH) to say what was right wherever we were, and not to fear from anyone's reproached.

[Muslim Volume 020, Book 08, Hadith # 4541].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 7. Indeed the Word (of punishment) has proved true against most of them, so they will not believe" It has been emphasized in this Hadith that even if a Muslim ruler is sinful and cruel, one should not disobey him unless he orders to go against the Divine injunctions. In that case, such rulers should not be obeyed. Similarly, it is not permissible to revolt against them until they commit clear-cut infidelity because there is a greater danger of loss in revolt and rebellion. It should be noted once and for all that the expressions of truth and compliance with religious injunctions have top priority on all occasions. This should be done regardless of what people say on this account.
