Daily Qur'an & Hadith 01 Nov 2014 (07 Muhharam 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[33].Surah Al-Ahzab [The Confederates]

Ayat 70. O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth.

Tafseer of Surah Al Ahzab (The Confederates) Ayat 70. O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and (always) say a word directed to the Right: We must not only speak the truth as far as we know it, but we must always try to hit the right point; i.e., we must not speak unseasonably, and when we do speak, we must not beat about the bush, but go straight to that which is right, in his deeds as well as in word. Then Allah will make our conduct right and cure any defects that there may be in our knowledge and character. With our Endeavour directed straight to the goal, we shall be forgiven our errors, shortcomings, faults, and sins of the past.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The best type of Jihad (striving in the way of Allah) is speaking a true word in the presence of a tyrant ruler.''

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 4344 and At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2174].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ahzab Ayat 70. O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth" Jihad has many degrees. Preaching of virtue is also Jihad. The most meritorious of all is the effort of communicating the Message of Allah to an unjust ruler. Similarly, if a society is so much given to a vice that no one can dare to utter a word against it, then to protest against it can also be reckoned as the best Jihad.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 31 Oct 2014 (06 Muhharam 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[33].Surah Al-Ahzab [The Confederates]

Ayat 69. O you who believe! Be not like those who annoyed Mussa (Moses), but Allah cleared him of that which they alleged, and he was honorable before Allah.

Tafseer of Surah Al Ahzab (The Confederates) Ayat 69. O ye who believe! Be ye not like those who vexed and insulted Moses, but Allah cleared him of the (calumnies) they had uttered: and he was honorable in Allah's sight. The people of Moses often vexed him and rebelled against him and against Allah's Law. Here the reference seems to be to Num. Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) favored some people in the distribution of spoils, someone said: "This division is not based on justice and it was not intended to win the Pleasure of Allah.'' I said to myself: "By Allah! I will inform Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) of this.'' I went to him and informed him. His face became red and he said, "Who will do justice if Allah and His Messenger do not?'' Then he said, "May Allah have mercy on (Prophet) Musa (Moses)[A.S]; he was caused more distress than this but he remained patient.'' Having heard this I said to myself: "I shall never convey anything of this kind to him in future". In Surah 12: Ayat 1-15. The Prophet  [SAWW](PBUH) was also attacked because of his marriage with Zaynab bint Jahsh, but not by his own circle; his motives were of the highest and were completely vindicated as we have seen above.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: After the battle of Hunain, Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) favored some people in the distribution of spoils (for consolation). He gave Al-Aqra bin Habis and Uyainah bin Hisn a hundred camels each and showed favor also to some more honorable persons among the Arabs. Someone said: "This division is not based on justice and it was not intended to win the Pleasure of Allah.'' I said to myself: "By Allah!

[Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 53, Hadith # 378]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ahzab Ayat 69. O you who believe! Be not like those who annoyed Mussa (Moses), but Allah cleared him of that which they alleged, and he was honorable before Allah. This Hadith leads to the conclusion that the leader of the people or the Caliph has a right, if situation demands, to give to the new Muslims and other influential and respectable people of the society more than others for their satisfaction and encouragement. The man who raised objection on the distribution of booty by the Prophet  [SAWW](PBUH) was a hypocrite. Devout Muslims could never think that the Prophet  [SAWW](PBUH) could be unjust to anyone. This incident also goes to prove that the Prophet  [SAWW](PBUH) also felt as much as others did, the things which infuriated or pleased others, because he was a man and not a superhuman being.

With Whom Allah is ?

Allah is with Those Who Patiently Persevere (Saabireen)
[2. Surah Al-Baqarah : Ayah 153]

O you who believe! seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient.

[8. Surah Al-Anfaal : Ayah 46]

And obey Allah and His Apostle and do not quarrel for then you will be weak in hearts and your power will depart, and be patient; surely Allah is with the patient.

Allah is with Those Who Believe (Mumineen)
[8. Surah Al-Anfaal : Ayah 19]

If you demanded a judgment, the judgment has then indeed come to you; and if you desist, it will be better for you; and if you turn back (to fight), We (too) shall turn back, and your forces shall avail you nothing, though they may be many, and (know) that Allah is with the believers.

Allah is with Those Who Restrain Themselves (Muttaqeen)
[9. Surah At-Tawba : Ayah 123]

O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

[2. Surah Al-Baqarah : Ayah 194]

The Sacred month for the sacred month and all sacred things are (under the law of) retaliation; whoever then acts aggressively against you, inflict injury on him according to the injury he has inflicted on you and be careful (of your duty) to Allah and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

Allah is with Those Who do Good (Muhsineen)
[16. Surah An-Nahl : Ayah 125-128]

Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and have disputations with them in the best manner; surely your Lord best knows those who go astray from His path, and He knows best those who follow the right way. And if you take your turn, then retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted; but if you are patient, it will certainly be best for those who are patient. And be patient and your patience is not but by (the assistance of) Allah, and grieve not for them, and do not distress yourself at what they plan. Surely Allah is with those who guard (against evil) and those who do good (to others).

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 30 Oct 2014 (05 Muhharam 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[33].Surah Al-Ahzab [The Confederates]

Ayat 67. And they will say: "Our Lord! Verily, we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us from the (Right) Way.

Ayat 68. Our Lord! give them double torment and curse them with a mighty curse!"

Tafseer of Surah Al Ahzab (The Confederates) Ayat 67 and 68. And they would say: "Our Lord! We obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us as to the (right) Path.  "Our Lord! Give them double Penalty and curse them with a very great Curse!" Cf. 25:69 and 11:20. The double Penalty invoked will be because (1) they went wrong themselves and (2) they misled others.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Usamah bin Zaid (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and will be cast into Hell, and his intestines will pour forth and he will go round them as a donkey goes round a millstone. The inmates of Hell will gather round him and say: `What has happened to you, O so-and-so? Were you not enjoining us to do good and forbidding us to do evil?' He will reply: `I was enjoining you to do good, but was not doing it myself; and I was forbidding you to do evil, but was doing it myself".

[Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 54, Hadith # 489].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ahzab Ayat 68. Our Lord! give them double torment and curse them with a mighty curse!" This Hadith serves a stern warning for such `Ulama', preachers so called scholars and reformers of the Ummah whose own conduct is contrary to the sermons they give from the pulpit.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 29 Oct 2014 (04 Muhharam 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[33].Surah Al-Ahzab [The Confederates]

Ayat 66. On the Day when their faces will be turned over in the Fire, they will say: "Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger (Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH)."

Tafseer of Surah Al Ahzab (The Confederates) Ayat 66. The Day that their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire, they will say: "Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger." The face is the expression of their Personality, their Self; and turning upside down is a sign of degradation and ignominy. When the Retribution comes, the evil ones will be humiliated, and they will wish that they had followed right guidance when they had the chance. They will then fall to accusing their leaders who misled them. But they forget their own personal responsibility.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Barzah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Man's feet will not move on the Day of Resurrection before he is asked about his life, how did he consume it, his knowledge, what did he do with it, his wealth, how did he earn it, and how did he dispose of it, and about his body, how did he wear it out.''

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2417].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ahzab Ayat 66. "Day when their faces will be turned over in the Fire, they will say: "Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah" 1. This Hadith first of all highlights the importance and value of this transitory life, every breath of which is invaluable. Not a moment of it should, therefore, be wasted in the disobedience of Allah because one shall also be made to account for it.

2. Man shall also be answerable for his knowledge. Here, we find an inducement for acquiring religious knowledge because that alone is beneficial for him. He should make use of his knowledge for winning the pleasure of Allah. If he does not do that then he must think about the justification for not doing so. He must also think how he would be facing Allah on the Day of Resurrection.

3. The question in respect of wealth raised in this Hadith clearly shows that one should earn wealth by legitimate means only and spend it strictly in a lawful manner. If he takes to unfair means of income or squanders it, he will be sinful and required to account for the violation of the Divine injunctions.

4. One should protect his body from everything that is unlawful and force himself to submit to the Divine injunctions. When he is asked to account for neglecting them, it will be difficult for him to escape the consequences of accountability.

In short, this Hadith makes one conscious of the accountability so that one keeps it all the time in view so that he will be saved from humiliation on the Day of Resurrection. How nice would it really be if one bears the accountability of the Day of Resurrection always in mind!
