Daily Qur'an & Hadith 01 Nov 2015 (18 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 16. And those who dispute concerning Allah (His Religion of Islamic Monotheism, with which Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) has been sent), after it has been accepted (by the people), of no use is their dispute before their Lord, and on them is wrath, and for them will be a severe torment.

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 16. But those who dispute concerning Allah after He has been accepted, futile is their dispute in the Sight of their Lord: on them will be a Penalty terrible. After He has been accepted. The disputants are the Unbelievers who pugnaciously assault the minds of Believers after the Believers have by conviction accepted Faith in Allah as leading to spiritual Light. Such disputation is futile. An inner spiritual experience can never be shaken by dialectical assaults. On the contrary such disputations recoil on the heads of those who indulge in them. Allah's Wrath is on them in this life, and the terrible Penalty of the Hereafter must inevitably follow their evil plots against Truth.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Allah, the Exalted, has said: `I will declare war against him who treats with hostility a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary prayers or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) until I love him, (so much so that) I become his hearing with which he hears, and his sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me something, I will surely give him, and if he seeks My Protection (refuge), I will surely protect him".

[Al-Bukhari Book 08, Chapter 76, Hadith # 509].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 16. And those who dispute concerning Allah, after it has been accepted (by the people), of no use is their dispute before their Lord" This Hadith tell us the status and distinctive signs of the favored men of Allah ('Auliya' Allah) The Noble Qur'an has defined them as: "Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah) and used to fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds)". (10:63). According to this definition, every believer who really fears Allah is a favored of Allah. It means that except for Faith and piety, favored of Allah are neither people of the special kind nor have they any special distinctive signs, as is generally thought by some people. In this respect, the ignorance of the general public is shocking because they regard even such persons as favored of Allah who not only neglect the religious obligations and the practice of the Prophet (PBUH), but also woefully lack cleanliness. Sometimes they call even mad or half-mad persons as favorites of Allah, whereas a Wali in the true sense is one who is meticulous about observing the obligations and is fearful of Allah. This Hadith brings about the following points: Firstly, the loves of those whom Allah loves entail the love of Allah, and hating them entails the hatred of Allah. Secondly, when a true Muslim acquires nearness and love of Allah by means of performing religious obligations, supererogatory and voluntary prayers, Allah then becomes his special helper and protects his limbs and organs and does not let them work for His disobedience.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 31 Oct 2015 (17 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 15. So unto this (religion of Islam, alone and this Qur'an) then invite (people) (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH), and Istaqim [(i.e. stand firm and straight on Islamic Monotheism by performing all that is ordained by Allah (good deeds, etc.), and by abstaining from all that is forbidden by Allah (sins and evil deeds, etc.)], as you are commanded, and follow not their desires but say: "I believe in whatsoever Allah has sent down of the Book [all the holy Books, this Qur'an and the Books of the old from the Taurat (Torah), or the Injeel (Gospel) or the Pages of Ibrahim (Abraham)] and I am commanded to do justice among you, Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allah will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return.

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 15. Now then, for that (reason), call (them to the Faith), and stand steadfast as thou art commanded, nor follow thou their vain desires; but say: "I believe in the Book which Allah has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord: for us (is the responsibility for) our deeds, and for you for your deeds. There is no contention between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is (our) Final Goal. How beautifully the mission of Islam is commended in this verse! (1) The more sectarianism and division there is in the world, the more need is there for the Gospel of Unity. (2) It must steadfastly pursue its way. (3) It must not be deflected by worldly or political motives. (4) Its faith must be directly in Allah and in Allah's Revelation. "The Book", mentioned here, covers all the revelations sent by Allah to His prophets. (5) It must judge justly between warring factions, as the Religion of Peace and Unity. The mission of Islam is further described. (6) The God whom it preaches is not an exclusive God: He is the Lord of the Worlds: to any given person, of whatever faith, 'He is your Allah, as well as mine' (7) Our faith is not a question of words; it is deeds which decide; each one of us has personal responsibility for his own conduct. (8) There is no cause of contention whatever, when we preach Unity, Truth, and the Hereafter. (9) If you have doubts, the final arbiter is Allah, and His Throne is our Goal.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, When it was evening, the Prophet (PBUH) used to supplicate: "Amsaina wa amsal-mulku lillah, wal-hamdu lillah. La `ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu (We have entered upon evening and the whole kingdom of Allah, too, has entered upon evening. Praise is due to Allah. There is none who has the right to be worshiped but Allah, the One who has no partner with Him).'' He (the narrator) said: I think that he (PBUH) used to follow the recitation with these words: "Lahul-mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa `ala kulli shi'in Qadir. Rabbi as'aluka khaira ma fi hadhihil-lailati, wa khaira ma ba`daha; wa a`udhu bika min sharri ma fi hadhihil-lailati, wa sharri ma ba`daha; Rabbi a'udhu bika minal-kasali, wa su'il-kibari; Rabbi a`udhu bika min `adhabin fin-nari, wa `adhabin fil-qabri (His is the sovereignty and to Him is all praise due, and He is Omnipotent. My Rubb, I beg of you good that lies in this night and good that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that lies in this night and from the evil of that which follows it. My Rubb! I seek refuge in You from lethargy and the misery of old age. O Allah! I seek Your Protection from the torment of Hell-fire and the punishment of the grave).'' When it was morning, he (PBUH) would recite the same, replacing the words: "We have entered upon evening and the whole kingdom of Allah, too, has entered upon evening'' with "We have entered upon morning and the whole kingdom of Allah entered upon morning.'' (Replace the words "Amsaina, amsa, hadhihil-lailati, ma ba`daha with Asbahna, asbaha, hadhal-yaumi, ma ba`dahu, respectively.)

[Muslim Book 35, Chapter 17, Hadith # 6570]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 15. "Allah is our Lord and your Lord" It is desirable to recite the invocations cited in the Hadith in the morning and the evening and also when one goes to bed and awakes. The purpose is that the concept of Allah's Providence and Divinity remains alive all the time in one's mind. With these words one seeks Allah's Protection in life and the Hereafter from things which are harmful. One also begs for his safety and guidance in this life and the Hereafter. This Hadith fully expresses one's recognition of Allah's Godhood and Lordship.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 30 Oct 2015 (16 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 14. And they divided not till after knowledge had come to them, through selfish transgression between themselves. And had it not been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord for an appointed term, the matter would have been settled between them. And verily, those who were made to inherit the Scripture [i.e. the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] after them (i.e. Jews and Christians) are in grave doubt concerning it (i.e. Allah's true religion Islam or the Qur'an).

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 14. And they became divided only after Knowledge reached them, through selfish envy as between themselves. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it. Cf. 2:213. If you reject Truth after it has reached you, it can only be through selfish contumacy or envy. Cf. 10:19. Allah's decree has allowed a certain Term during which a sinner has the chance of repentance and forgiveness. Were it not so, sin would be punished at once, and the matter would be decided straightaway. So also, when people reject Truth from selfish or contumacious motives, they get rope: perchance they may repent. Cf. 14:9. "Those who have inherited the Book" are the People of the Book, of the ages since the Book or Revelation came to them. Referring to the Jews and Christians contemporary with our Prophet, how true it is that they were broken up into hostile sects which hated and persecuted each other! Islam came to unite them, and it did. For the present phases of Christianity and Judaism are of later growth.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "During the Mi`raj (the Night of Ascension), I saw a group of people who were scratching their chests and faces with their copper nails. I asked, `Who are these people, O Jibril?' Jibril replied: `These are the people who ate flesh of others (by backbiting) and trampled people's honor.''

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 4878].

Lesson: "These are the people who ate flesh of others'' is a metaphor for backbiting. "To trample people's honor'' is akin to harming their goodwill and honor. The punishment for these things mentioned in Hadith makes their seriousness obvious.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 29 Oct 2015 (15 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 13. He (Allah) has ordained for you the same religion (Islam) which He ordained for Nuh (Noah) (PBUH), and that which We have inspired in you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH), and that which We ordained for Ibrahim (Abraham) (PBUH), Musa (Mosesy) (PBUH) and 'Iesa (Jesus) (PBUH) saying you should establish religion (i.e. to do what it orders you to do practically), and make no divisions in it (religion) (i.e. various sects in religion). Intolerable for the Mushrikun, is that to which you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience.

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 13. Allah's Religion is the same in essence, whether given, for example, to Noah PBUH, Abraham PBUH, Moses PBUH, or Jesus PBUH, or to our Prophet SAWW (PBUH). The source of unity is the revelation from Allah. In Islam it is "established" as an institution, and does not remain merely a vague suggestion. Faith, Duty, or Religion, is not a matter to dispute about. The formation of sects is against the very principle of Religion and Unity. What we should strive for is steadfastness in duty and faith, and unity among mankind. Unity, unselfishness, love for Allah and man, these things are inconsistent with selfish aggrandizement, unjust suppression of our fellow-creatures, false worship, and false conduct to our brethren. Hence the Gospel of Unity, though it is in complete accord with the pure pattern after which Allah made us, is yet hard to those who love self and falsehood. But Grace is free to all, and in His wise Plan. He will specially select Teachers to show the Way to humanity, and no one who turns to Him will lack guidance.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Allah does not look at your figures, nor at your attire but He looks at your hearts and accomplishments".

[Muslim Book 32, Chapter 08, Hadith # 6221]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 13. "Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience" This Hadith highlights the importance of sincerity and good intention. It is, therefore, essential that every noble action should be based on these two virtues; and heart should be free from all such things that destroy noble deeds. Hypocrisy, ostentation, greed for wealth, riches and other worldly things fall in the category of such evils. Since the true condition of heart is known to Allah alone, the true position of one's actions will be known on the Day of Resurrection when one will be required for them by Allah. In this world, one will be treated according to his apparent condition while his insight will be left to Allah.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 28 Oct 2015 (14 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 12. To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth, He enlarges provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills). Verily! He is the All-Knower of everything.

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 12. To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth: He enlarges and restricts. The Sustenance to whom He will: for He knows full well all things. "Sustenance", here as elsewhere, stands for all things that support every phase of life, physical, social, intellectual, or spiritual. Cf. 10:59. The source of all gifts is Allah; His bounty is inexhaustible, and He gives to all; but He does not give to all in the same measure, because, out of the fullness of His knowledge and wisdom, He can judge best what is best for any of His creatures.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Umer bin Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) saying,  "If you all depend on Allah with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and return with full belly at dusk".

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2344].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 012. "He enlarges provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills)" Trust in Allah does not mean that one should not give any importance to material resources. What it really means is that along with their due importance, one should have full trust in Allah. Without His Will, material resources are of no avail. But nevertheless it is necessary to have material resources because their procurement is also ordained by Him. Birds do not keep sitting in their nests for food but fly out in search of it.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 27 Oct 2015 (13 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 11. The Creator of the heavens and the earth. Allah has made for you mates from yourselves, and for the cattle (also) mates. By this means He creates you (in the wombs). There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 11. (He is) the Creator of the heavens and the earth: He has made for you pairs from among yourselves, and pairs among cattle: by this means does He multiply you: there is nothing whatever like unto Him, and He is the One that hears and sees (all things). The mystery of sex has not only its physical aspects, but its moral and spiritual aspects, and therefore mankind is in this respect differentiated from the lower animals, and among mankind the grades and qualities are suggested by the phrase "from among yourselves". As regards cattle, they are specially mentioned among the animals, as having special relations with man and specially sub-serving his needs, not only in the physical sphere, but also in the matter of transport, which is the key to all civilization and culture.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "The world is but a (quick passing) enjoyment; and the best enjoyment of the world is a pious and virtuous woman".

[Muslim Book # 08, Chapter 37, Hadith # 3465].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 011." Allah has made for you mates from yourselves" This Hadith mentions the qualities of a virtuous partner in woman. When her husband looks at her, she pleases him; when he orders her, she obeys him; and when he is absent, she guards herself (chastity) and the property of her husband. (Abu Dawud and Nasa'i). This Hadith stresses the fact that if one wants success in this world and the Hereafter, he should select a pious wife. Rather than going after her beauty, lineage and wealth, one should give preference to her Faith over all other considerations. If he chooses a woman who is faithful to her Deen and strictly adheres to the Shari`ah, she would be a source of blessing for him in this life and the Hereafter.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 26 Oct 2015 (12 Muharram 1437)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[42]. Surah Ash-Shura [The Consultation]

Ayat 10. And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allah (He is the ruling Judge). (And say to these polytheists) Such is Allah, my Lord in Whom I put my trust, and to Him I turn in all of my affairs and in repentance.

Tafseer of Surah Al Shura (Consultation) Ayat 10. Whatever it be wherein ye differ, the decision there of is with Allah, such is Allah my Lord: In Him I trust, and to Him I turn. In the highest issues of life men may see things differently. If their differences arise merely from selfish motives, or narrowness of vision, they are sinning against their own souls. If their differences arise from sincere but mistaken notions, their proper course is not to form divisions and sects, or to increase contention and hatred among men, but to leave all things to Allah, trusting in Him and turning to Him in all difficulties. The final decision in all things is with Him.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) used to supplicate: "O Allah! To You I have submitted, and in You do I believe, and in You I put my trust, to You do I turn, and for You I argued. O Allah, I seek refuge with You through Your Power; there is none worthy of worship except You Alone; that You safeguard me against going astray. You are the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists; the One Who never dies, whereas human beings and jinn will all die".

[Muslim Book 35, Chapter 17, Hadith # 6561].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 010. "Allah, my Lord in Whom I put my trust" This Hadith mentions the importance of Dua and faith in Allah, inducement for having trust in Him and the distinction of people who have these qualities.
