Daily Qur'an & Hadith 01 March 2015 (09 Jamadi Al `Awwal 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 77. Does not man see that Allah have created him from Nutfah (semen drops). Yet behold! He (stands forth) as an open opponent.

Ayat 78.  And he puts forth for Allah a parable, and forgets his own creation. He says: "Who will give life to these bones when they have rotted away and became dust?" Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 77 and 78, Doth not man see that it is We Who created him from sperm?  yet behold! he (stands forth) as an open adversary! Man's disobedience and folly are all the more surprising, seeing that-apart from Allah's greatness and mercy-man is himself such a puny creature, created out of something that is less than a drop in the vast ocean of Existence . Yet man has the hardihood to stand out and dispute with his Maker, and institute idle comparisons as in the next verse!  Ayat 78. And he makes comparisons for Us, and forgets his own (origin and) Creation: He says, "Who can give life to (dry) bones and decomposed ones (at that)?" That is, man thinks that Allah is like His creatures, who at best have very limited powers, or man draws idle parallels like that mentioned at the end of this verse. 'Who can give life to dry bones, and decomposed ones at that?' Man certainly cannot, and no power in nature can do that. But why compare the powers and capacities of Allah's creatures with the powers and capacities of the Creator? The first creation-out of nothing-is far more difficult for us to imagine than a second or subsequent process for which there is already a basis. And Allah has power over all things.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "During the Miraj (the Night of Ascension), I saw a group of people who were scratching their chests and faces with their copper nails. I asked, `Who are these people, O Jibril ?' Jibril replied: `These are the people who ate flesh of others (by backbiting) and trampled people's honor.''

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 4878].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 78.  And he puts forth for Allah a parable, and forgets his own creation. "These are the people who ate flesh of others'' is a metaphor for backbiting. "To trample people's honor'' is akin to harming their goodwill and honor. The punishment for these things mentioned in Hadith makes their seriousness obvious.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 28 Feb 2015 (08 Jamadi Al `Awwal 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 74. And they have taken besides Allah aliha (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so called gods).

Ayat 75. They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning).

Ayat 76. So let not their speech, then, grieve you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH). Verily, We know what they conceal and what they reveal.

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 74 to 76, Yet they take (for worship) gods other than Allah, (hoping) that they might be helped!  Ayat 75. They have not the power to help them: but they will be brought up (before Our Judgment-seat) as a troop (to be condemned). There is some difference of opinion among Commentators as to the exact meaning to be attached to this clause. As I understand it, the meaning seems to be this. Man is apt to forget or turn away from the true God, the source of all the good which he enjoys, and to go after imaginary powers in the shape of gods; heroes, men, or abstract things like Science or Nature or Philosophy, or superstitious things like Magic, or Good Fortune or Ill-Fortune, or embodiments of his own selfish desires. He thinks that they might help him in this Life or in the Hereafter (if he believes in a Hereafter). But they cannot help him: on the contrary all things that are false will be brought up and condemned before Allah's Judgment Seat, and the worshippers of the Falsehoods will also be treated as a troop favoring the Falsehoods and therefore worthy of condemnation. The Falsehoods, therefore, instead of helping them, will contribute to their condemnation. Ayat 76. Let not their speech, then, grieve thee. Verily We know what they hide as well as what they disclose. If men are so foolish as to reject Allah, let not the men of Allah grieve over it. They should do their duty, and leave the rest to Allah. Allah knows all the open and secret motives that sway the wicked and His Plan must ultimately prevail, however much appearances may be against it at any given time.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: when the Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH), feared mischief from a people, he would supplicate: "Allahumma inna naj`aluka fi nuhurihim, wa na`udhu bika min shururihim (O Allah! We ask You to face them, and seek Your Protection against their evil.''

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 1537 # and An-Nasa'i Hadith # 8631].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 76. So let not their speech, then, grieve you (O Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH). Verily, We know what they conceal and what they reveal." Allah's Help, we are told, is a protection against all perils. Through this prayer we seek His Help with the conviction that the deceptions and designs of the infidels will turn back upon them.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 27 Feb 2015 (07 Jamadi Al `Awwal 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 72. And We have subdued them unto them so that some of them they have for riding and some they eat.

Ayat 73. And they have (other) benefits from them (besides), and they get (milk) to drink, will they not then be grateful?

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 72 and 73, And that We have subjected them to their (use)? Of them some do carry them and some they eat: Ayat 73. And they have (other) profits from them (besides), and they get (milk) to drink. Will they not then be grateful? Such as skins for leather, furs for warmth, sheep's wool or camel's hair for blankets or textiles, musk for perfume, and so on. The whole argument turns on this. 'Our teaching is for your own benefit. We confer all these blessings on you, and yet you turn away from the Giver of all, and run after your own vain imagination!'

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) used to say at the conclusion of prayer: "La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa `ala kulli shai'in Qadir. Allahumma la mani'a lima a'tayta, wa la mu`tiya lima mana'ta, wa la yanfa'u dhal-jaddi, minkal-jaddu (there is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him, His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent. O Allah! None can deny that which You bestow and none can bestow that which You hold back; and the greatness of the great will be of no avail to them against You).''

[Al-Bukhari Book 09, Chapter 92, Hadith # 395].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 73, will they not then be grateful? " Al-Jaddu'' means good luck and richness. That is, good fortune and prosperity will not be of any avail before Allah. What will really benefit a person before Him are Faith and virtuous deeds. The prayer quoted in this Hadith makes a special mention of His Oneness.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 26 Feb 2015 (06 Jamadi Al `Awwal 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 71. Do they not see that We have created for them of what Our Hands have created, the cattle, so that they are their owners.

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 71. See they not that it is We Who have created for them among the things which Our hands have fashioned cattle, which are under their dominion? If they are blind to other Signs of Allah, they can at least see the simple homely things of life in which they receive so many benefits from Allah's mercy. How is it that wild animals can be domesticated, and in domestication can be so useful to man? Man can use them for riding or for draught; he can use their flesh for food and drink their milk; he can use their hair or wool. Cf. 16:66, 80; and 23:21-22.

English Translation of Hadith

Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Naas were revealed. After they were revealed, he took to them for seeking Allah's protection and left everything besides them.

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2058].

Lesson:  Like men, jinn's have also good and bad elements among them. Almighty Allah has endowed them with such power that if they want they can, with the Will of Allah, harm human beings. This is the reason mischievous jinn's harm people. Similarly, influence of the evil eye is also true. What it means is that if a person looks at someone with greed and envy, the evil effects of his look will reach the person viewed, and because of that he has to suffer some loss or trouble or accident. For this reason, the Prophet (PBUH) would seek the protection of Allah against the jinn's and the evil eye and pray in his own words for it, saying: "I seek Your protection against jinn's and evil eyes of the people.'' After the revelation of the Surah Al-Falaq and An-Naas (last two Surah of the Quran) he started reciting them because these were revealed for this purpose. These Surah are also called "Al-Mu`awwidhatain'' which mean two Surah which provide protection. It is, therefore, very useful to seek the protection of Allah by reciting them.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 25 Feb 2015 (05 Jamadi Al `Awwal 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 69. And Allah have not taught his messenger (Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) poetry, nor is it meet for him. This is only a Reminder and a plain Qur'an.

Ayat 70. That may give warning to him who is living (a healthy minded the believer), and that Word (charge) may be justified against the disbelievers (dead, as they reject the warnings).

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 69 to 70. We have not instructed the (Prophet) in Poetry, nor is it meet for him: this is no less than a Message and a Qur´an making things clear: Cf. 26:224. Here "Poetry" is used as connoting fairy tales, imaginary descriptions, things futile, false, or obscure, such as decadent Poetry is, whereas the Qur'an is a practical guide, true and clear. Ayat 70. That it may give admonition to any (who are) alive, and that the charge may be proved against those who reject (Truth). "Alive", both in English and Arabic, means not only "having physical life", but having all the active qualities which we associate with life. In religious language, those who are not responsive to the realities of the spiritual world are no better than those who are dead. The Message of Allah penetrates the hearts of those who are alive in the spiritual sense. Cf. 28:63. If people reject Truth and Faith after they have been admonished and warned, the charge against them, of willful rebellion, is proved. They cannot then plead either ignorance or inadvertence.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Verily, Allah elevates some people with this Qur'an and abases others.''

[Muslim Book 04, Chapter 138, Hadith # 1780]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 70. That may give warning to him who is living (a healthy minded the believer), and that Word (charge) may be justified against the disbelievers (dead, as they reject the warnings)" Only such people will be elevated who act upon the teachings of the Qur'an and abstain from what is forbidden by Allah. The Muslims of the early centuries of Islam were blessed with great honor by Allah because they loved and applied the Qur'an. Because of this meaningful attachment with the Qur'an, they made great achievements in religious and worldly spheres. Those who neglected the teachings of Islam will be disgraced and humiliated. May Allah guide and enable us to re-establish our contact with the Qur'an so that we can regain our past glory. Exaltation and humiliation mentioned in the Hadith is bound to happen in both this life and the Hereafter.

Daily Qur'an & Hadith 24 Feb 2015 (04 Jamadi Al `Awwal 1436)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[36].Surah Yaseen [Yaseen]

Ayat 68. And he whom Allah grant long life, Allah reverse him in creation (weakness after strength like a little child). Will they not then understand?

Tafseer of Surah Yaseen, Ayat 68. If Allah grant long life to any, Allah cause him to be reversed in nature: Will they not then understand? This connects on with the last verse. Everything is possible with Allah. If you doubt how man can be transformed from his present nature, contemplate the transformations he already undergoes in his present nature at different ages. As a child, his powers of mind and body are still undeveloped. As he grows, they grow, and certain moral qualities, such as courage, daring, the will to conquer, unfold themselves. In extreme old age these are again obscured, and a second childhood supervenes. The back of the man who walked proudly straight and erect is now bent. If the transformations take place even in his present nature and constitution, how much easier was it for Allah to cast him in an immobile mould? But Allah granted him instead the high possibilities and responsibilities.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  "Hasten to do good deeds before you are overtaken by one of the seven afflictions.'' Then (giving a warning) he said, "Are you waiting for poverty which will make you unmindful of devotion, or prosperity which will make you corrupt, or a disease which will disable you, or (old age) senility which will make you mentally unstable, or sudden death which will take you all of a sudden, or Ad-Dajjal who is the worst expected, or the Hour; and the Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.''

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2306].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Yaseen Ayat 68. And he whom Allah grant long life, Allah reverse him in creation (weakness after strength like a little child)," The Hadith focuses on seven things which hold back man from the virtuous path. Taking in consideration the turning health and the brief span of life to his account, he is, therefore, apt to gather up good deeds for the Hereafter because an untoward situation may confront him any moment and render him unable to do good things to his benefit in the otherworldly life.
